Arrowroot (Maranta Arundinacea) is a tall perennial that has swollen, fleshy rhizomes and long shiny leaves. Arrowroot is made by grinding the thick rhizomes into a starchy white powder that is used as a culinary and cosmetic thickening agent. This is a soothing nutritious food. In some tropical countries Arrowroot is applied to snake and insect bites and arrow wounds. This is believed to be the origin of the name.Suggested Use: Arrowroot makes a great thickener for sauces, gravies and puddings. Use it in place of Wheat Flour or Cornstarch. It cooks up clear, with a smooth texture and virtually no taste. Arrowroot can also be used as a flour in some baking recipes. Ingredients: Arrowroot Basic Prep: Mix with cold water before adding to sauces and gravies to prevent lumps. If used as a flour, add to recipes as called for and adjust amount as needed.
