Paddy Straw Mushrooms are cultivated on Rice Straw in South Asia. Straw Mushrooms are an indispensable ingredient in many Asian dishes. These jolly mushrooms are called Volvariella volvacea. Their common name comes from the rice straw on which they are grown. The straw mushroom, also called "paddy straw mushroom," is cultivated in the hot, steamy climate of Southeast Asia. Attempts to grow them in the southern United States so far have been unsuccessful. Paddy Straw mushrooms are versatile enough to use in any of your favorite mushroom recipes, and are truly special in stir-fries. Once reconstituted, Paddy Straw Mushrooms obtain a smooth, velvety texture and are best when added to any dish toward the end of the cooking time. Paddy Straws will add rich flavor and a special texture to sauces, main dishes, and stews.
