A lot of the Choline Bitartrate on the market at the moment is racemic, or a mixture of dextrorotory and levorotory enantiomers. The issue with that is twofold. The levorotory enantiomer is the only bioactive form. So, the racemic version is only delivering half the dosage that the body can acutally use. The other issue is that DL-Choline Bitartrate has been shown to be nephrotic in a number of studies, putting strain on the kidneys. The only reason to use racemic Choline Bitartrate is to save on cost, as the synthesis is cheaper.
